COMPOUND / THE DETAILS

Privacy policy

Last updated: 13 October 2026

This policy explains what personal data Compound (compound.ie) collects, why, and your rights over it. The site is operated from Ireland by its owner, who is the data controller for the purposes of the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) and the Data Protection Act 2018. Contact: david@compound.ie.

What we collect

Reading the site. You can read every page without creating an account or giving us any information. With your permission, Compound uses Google Analytics 4 to measure page views, approximate engagement, device type and broad traffic source. We also measure article-reading milestones, source-link clicks, use of an interactive tool and use of the copy-link control. We do not send names, email addresses, calculator entries, form values or other information intended to identify you as analytics events. Google may process technical information such as your IP address as part of providing the service. Analytics storage is denied unless you choose to allow it. You can change that choice using Analytics settings in the footer.

Our hosting provider, GitHub Pages, records standard server logs (such as IP address, browser type and pages requested) to operate and secure the service; GitHub’s handling of that data is described in GitHub’s privacy statement. Google’s handling of analytics information is described in Google’s privacy policy.

Email subscription. If you subscribe to Compound emails, we store your email address and the date and source of your consent with our email service provider, and use it only to send you Compound emails. You can unsubscribe with one click in any email, after which your address is removed from the active list. We do not sell, rent or share subscriber lists.

Contacting us. If you email us, we keep the correspondence for as long as needed to deal with it.

Solar installer sponsorship applications. Our installer application form collects the company name, contact person, business email, optional phone, website, registration information, requested counties and optional message. We use these details to assess enquiries, check eligibility, respond to applicants and arrange sponsorships only after an agreement. Submitting a form does not reserve a county or create a paid subscription. The form submits over HTTPS to FormSubmit (formsubmit.co), a third-party processor that forwards the submission to Compound by email and may send an automated acknowledgement to the applicant. FormSubmit states that its submission archive is retained for 30 days; email correspondence received by Compound follows our own retention policy below. See FormSubmit’s privacy notice. We do not include submitted details in analytics events.

Solar homeowner project requests (private pilot). When you deliberately press Submit my project privately on the Solar Project Builder, Compound collects your name, email address, optional phone number and Eircode, county, project description, and selected contact and quotation preferences. The full brief is stored in Compound’s separate Supabase database in the Ireland region and is handled by Compound through its secure Vercel backend. Only the specifically authorised Compound reviewer can open these pilot records. They are not published, offered for sale or shared with installers during this private pilot. We may contact you about the project you have asked us to review. Choosing an indicative number of future quotations is not consent to share your details with installers: we will ask separately before any introduction or disclosure. Submitting does not guarantee that any installer will quote or contact you. We do not add homeowners to marketing lists, and we do not pass form answers to Google Analytics or advertisers.

For abuse prevention we store a one-way keyed fingerprint of the submitting connection’s IP address and email (not its raw IP address) so excessive submissions can be rate-limited. Vercel may independently process standard technical service logs. We rely on your express request and consent to store and review the submitted data for this limited purpose. You can withdraw or request deletion at any time at david@compound.ie; that stops further internal use except what must be retained to comply with law. Unless you ask us to retain your request for follow-up, pilot submissions will be deleted within 90 days of receipt, with earlier deletion when requested where required by law. These pilot records are distinct from any future paid installer lead service.

Advertising

Compound may show advertisements served by Google AdSense. Google, as a third-party vendor, uses cookies to serve ads based on your prior visits to this website or other websites. Google’s use of advertising cookies enables it and its partners to serve ads to you based on your visit to this site and/or other sites on the internet.

Where advertising is shown to visitors in the European Economic Area or the UK, you will be asked for your consent before any personalised advertising cookies are set, and you can change your choice at any time using the privacy settings link in the site footer. You may also opt out of personalised advertising by visiting Google’s Ads Settings, or opt out of third-party vendors’ use of cookies for personalised advertising at www.aboutads.info. Google’s own privacy policy is at policies.google.com/privacy.

Legal basis

We rely on your consent for solar private project review, Google Analytics, email subscriptions and personalised advertising cookies, and on our legitimate interest in running and securing the site for server logs and correspondence. We process requested solar sponsorship applications to take steps at the applicant’s request before entering a potential business contract, and where appropriate on our legitimate interest in handling business enquiries. We do not add applicants to unrelated marketing lists.

Your rights

You have the right to access the personal data we hold about you, to have it corrected or deleted, to restrict or object to its processing, to data portability, and to withdraw consent at any time. To exercise any of these, email david@compound.ie. You also have the right to lodge a complaint with the Data Protection Commission, Ireland’s supervisory authority, at dataprotection.ie.

Retention

Subscriber data is kept until you unsubscribe. Correspondence is kept for up to two years. Google Analytics event-level data is retained according to the retention period selected in the Compound Analytics property and is reported mainly in aggregate.

Children

The site is not directed at children under 16 and we do not knowingly collect their data.

Changes

If this policy changes, the date at the top will be updated. Material changes will be noted on the site.

YOUR PRIVACY

Help us understand what gets read.

With your permission, anonymous Google Analytics measurements tell us which articles are useful. We do not send calculator entries or form values. You can decline and still read everything.
