COMPOUND / THE DETAILS

Editorial and Corrections Policy

Compound publishes practical, evidence-led articles about health, wealth and life in Ireland. This policy explains how we choose, research, review and correct them.

Editorial responsibility

Compound was founded and is edited by David, who has a BSc in Biotechnology and professional experience in biopharmaceutical manufacturing. He sets the editorial standards and personally approves our manually written articles. A separate, clearly labelled Compound Earnings feed is produced automatically from SEC financial filings under documented numerical checks; those briefs are not individually approved before publication.

Compound does not present David as a doctor, dietitian, psychologist, financial adviser, tax adviser or solicitor. Our work explains evidence and official guidance for a general audience. It is not a diagnosis, treatment plan or recommendation tailored to an individual. The Disclaimer explains these limits in more detail.

How we choose topics

We look for questions that affect everyday life in Ireland and that can be answered usefully from reliable evidence. We do not choose a conclusion first and search for material that supports it. A topic may be postponed when the available evidence is too weak, too old or too uncertain to support a responsible article.

Our source standards

For Irish rules, services and statistics, we prefer primary and official sources such as Revenue, the HSE, the Central Statistics Office, Citizens Information, government departments and regulators.

For health and wellbeing articles, we prefer systematic reviews, meta-analyses, randomised trials, regulatory documents and guidance from recognised public-health bodies. Where only observational evidence is available, the article should say so and should not describe an association as proof of cause and effect.

We link to the sources used, distinguish measured results from estimates and include limitations that could materially change how a reader understands a claim. Commercial press releases and secondary reporting may provide context, but they are not treated as substitutes for the underlying evidence where that evidence is available.

Review before publication

Our ordinary editorial articles receive human review before publication. The review considers whether:

  • factual claims are supported by the cited sources;
  • figures, dates, eligibility rules and monetary amounts match the source;
  • the article distinguishes fact, interpretation and uncertainty;
  • important limitations or conflicting findings are included;
  • health and financial claims are framed responsibly;
  • the writing answers the reader’s question clearly; and
  • photographs, graphics and tables are appropriately credited or created by Compound.

An article is revised, delayed or not published when it does not meet those standards. Exception: automated Compound Earnings briefs are generated from SEC 10-Q/10-K standardised figures only when required line items and year-earlier comparisons pass deterministic checks. They are clearly labelled as automated and are not individually human-reviewed before publication. Reports with missing, inconsistent or ambiguous figures are withheld.

Use of AI tools

AI tools may help organise research, compare source material, check draft claims against supplied sources and produce an early draft. They do not independently select or publish ordinary editorial articles. David reviews the source material, edits the finished piece and makes the publication decision. Our SEC-based earnings briefs are a separate deterministic data-to-text automation, not AI-generated investment analysis.

AI output is not treated as a source. A factual claim must be supported by the source cited in the article.

Images

Editorial illustrations are labelled as illustrations. Photographs and other third-party visual material carry source and licence credits where applicable.

Health and financial information

Health and financial subjects can have serious consequences. We therefore favour authoritative sources, state who findings or rules apply to and avoid promises about individual outcomes. Readers should speak to an appropriately qualified professional before acting on information that depends on their health, medication, finances, tax position or legal circumstances.

Independence and commercial influence

Editorial decisions are independent of advertisers and other commercial relationships. Advertising does not determine which topics we cover or what an article says. Sponsored or paid material, if Compound introduces it in the future, will be labelled clearly and will not be presented as independent editorial work.

We identify a relevant conflict of interest or material source of research funding when it could affect how a reasonable reader interprets the evidence.

Corrections and updates

If you believe something is inaccurate or materially incomplete, email david@compound.ie with the article link and the point that needs review. We check correction requests against the underlying source.

Minor spelling, formatting and clarity edits may be made without a correction note. A material correction to a fact, figure, conclusion or eligibility rule will be noted in the article. Articles may also be updated when official guidance, rates or evidence changes. Where an update materially changes the article, the page should show the revised date and explain the change.
