Drivers using the R132 through Julianstown should allow extra time from the week beginning Monday 9 November. Uisce Éireann says the first phase of its €15 million east Meath water project will start on the north side of the village near Pilltown Road, with two-way traffic management in place. It has given a starting week rather than a precise day or a delay estimate. Uisce Éireann’s 6 November announcement
Where the work will take place
The first phase affects the approach to Julianstown near Pilltown Road. Across the whole project, crews will lay about 6 km of new main from Pilltown Road to Balloy Reservoir and replace about 2.5 km along the R132 and L5621 in Julianstown. GMC Utilities will do the work in phases. The programme allows roughly 12 months for the main construction, with resurfacing expected in early 2028. That timetable covers the wider project. It does not put the first traffic arrangement in place for a full year.
For a school run or a shift with a fixed start time, check conditions on the approach to the village before setting out. The first-phase announcement specifies traffic management and gives no scheduled household water shut-off.
What the 2,000-home figure means for buyers
Uisce Éireann says the additional network capacity can support 2,000 new homes. The €15 million pays for water infrastructure. A water main alone supplies no completion date, planning permission or sale price for an individual development.
If a new-build purchase depends on a particular handover month, ask the developer to confirm the connection position for that phase before committing to a rental notice period or a moving date. Compound’s guide to budgeting for a home purchase covers the deposit and upfront costs, and its mortgage calculator lets buyers test repayments separately from moving costs.
